May 31, just a few days away, marks the close of TLR‘s inaugural reading period. When the clock strikes midnight on the 31st, we’ll be closing submissions for one week, and reopening for our second reading period on the 8th of June. During that week of closure, Joe and I have the tremendous task of making our final decisions on pieces to include in our first issue of TLR, which will launch on the 31st of August.
As we bring this reading period to a close, we want to offer our sincere thanks to all who have submitted; though we cannot include all of the many hundreds of submitters in this issue, the chance to consider your work for publication is something we don’t take lightly. We recognize that it’s a privilege to read our submitters’ work, and we hold special appreciation for all the writers who believed enough in our mission to entrust us with their work.
When we began this journal, we hoped we would receive strong work in a range of styles from a diverse group of artists across the country and the world. That’s exactly what we’ve received. To say that we’ve been gratified by the response to our calls for submission is an understatement, and we couldn’t be more pleased by the quality of work we’ll be presenting in our first issue.
And while we may turn off the submission taps for the first week of June, watch this space; in addition to updating our calls for submissions, we’ll be making an exciting announcement about the future of TLR.
