Contributor Payments
As of August 2024, we are offering $0.05 per word for fiction and nonfiction. For poetry we offer $55 per poem, and also for flash prose—for us, that’s anything under 1100 words—we also offer $55.

Those numbers again:

  • Poetry: $55 per poem
  • Flash fiction and nonfiction (up to 1100 words): $55
  • Fiction and creative nonfiction (1,101 – 6,000 words): $0.05 per word.

Payments and Fees

We continue to pursue a sustainable model of independent publishing. For now, our model includes charging fees for submissions and critiques, which enables us to pay our staff and contributors. For more information about out how we use the funds generated by our submission fees, please see our Transparency Index below.

Our fees currently are as follows:

  • $4 for poetry (up to six poems per submission)
  • $4 for flash fiction and flash nonfiction (up to 1100 words)
  • $5 for longer prose.
  • We offer free submissions to writers from historically marginalized groups.
  • We also offer an in-depth critique of fiction and nonfiction selections:
    •   1 – 1,499 words, the price for a full critique is $50.
    •   1,500 – 4,999 words, the price for a full critique is $60.
    •   5,000 – 6,000 words, the price for a full critique is $70. 
    • Please contact us for manuscripts over 6,000 words.

The Transparency Index

Because we’re committed to transparency in the publishing process, we publish a transparency index for each of our issues. Tahoma Literary Review pays everyone involved in our publication, from publisher/editor to production artist.

 Payment is made possible by:

  • Revenues received from submission fees (fees are $4 or $5)
  • Critique and feedback for works in progress
  • Donations (Tahoma Literary Review is not/not a 501(c)(3). We are grateful or any donations, but they are not tax deductible)
