Anita Koester wins the Sable Books Poetry of Protest Competition

April 07, 2017

Anita Olivia Koester’s poem “Tapestry with White Columns” won  Sable Books’ Poetry of Protest contest judged by Shadab Zeest Hashmi.

Hashmi writes, “I find it remarkable how the poem balances the necessary angst (which is part of protest poetry), with clarity of expression and a largeness of spirit. Protest poems are not easy to write--this one has visceral power and offers wisdom without evading complexity.”

Anita has designated the Chicago charity Girl Forward to receive 33% of the proceeds from all entry fees. This poem was also selected to appear in Thoughtcrime Press’ Not My President Anthology.
