I Wanted to Be Frida

Artist Note

“I wanted to be Frida” began with a question I often grapple with: what happens when you realize you might not become the artist you dreamed of being? I chose iconic women artists whose work and identity are inseparable in order to explore that gap between aspiration and reality. The visual poem form allowed me to discuss this existential ambition and fear of mediocrity without needing to resolve the tension between them.
