Your Contributions at Work: Supporting BIPOC and Other Marginalized Writers

Our discussion with Lorena at Solstice  touched on the role of literary magazines  in the writing community. One of our goals within the community is to support writers from under-represented groups. In 2020 we introduced the free submission category for underrepresented writers; in 2022 we started a fellowship for a BIPOC writer at a writing residency. With your generous contributions we have been able cover at least one full residency each year. The residencies are at Mineral School, an artist residency program in Washington state (see the next article for more information).

Our recipient in 2023 was Nancy Mburu. You can learn more about her and her work at jackstraw.org/artist/nancy-mburu.

Mineral School had to raise its fees this year, meaning that your contributions are even more welcome.
