Issue 31, Summer 2026

Welcome to our latest issue, and thank you for reading.

It is almost always a jolt, a visceral revelation, to discover the common themes running through an issue’s selections. Taken together, the works that fill any one issue can serve as a peek into the concerns of the zeitgeist, a glimpse at the issues that flow through our collective unconscious.

Each writer here has created something distinctively their own, but also that reaches for the universal.  The writings here speak of revelations gleaned from something as grand as myth or as mundane as a dentist appointment.

For this reader (and editor), a salient theme in this issue was a quest for human connections. The world presents so much to divide us—dehumanizing rhetoric, bubble-creating algorithms in social media, deceptive AI slop—it becomes easy to feel isolated.

But even as the divisive forces of the world loom large over us, people such as our contributors seek to pull us back together. They explore the connections between people that exist, that might exist, or that once existed. They find and revisit the thoughts and emotions that we share across time, across place, and across cultures.

With everything out there that seeks to exploit our differences, it’s refreshing to find something that can bring us together. We humbly present this issue as one of those things. We hope you enjoy it.
